Tableaux de chasse (Hunting Trophies)

2019

Tableaux de chasse explores our bond with the animal world. Drawing on the iconography of the hunt, it stages mythical, heroic or sacred figures, always accompanied by an animal (companion, adversary, totem).

Through these pairings, painting questions our relationship to animality: between fascination and distance, archaic memory and contemporary concerns. The figures, often in a trance, seem absent from themselves, seized by the animal presence. The series reactivates a buried imaginary in which domination, identification, respect and fear are played out again: are we still able to think of ourselves as a fragment of nature? An animal, a blade of grass, a landscape?
